The Last 7 Days in Tech: 10/19/09 – 10/25/09
Sun, Oct 25, 2009
This will be a new weekly post every Sunday at 11:59PM about the last full week in the tech industry. Everything ranging from software to new company news will be linked here once a week. If you would like add something to the list during the week, email me a link, your name, and a short description of the news (one or two sentences). Make sure that it is relevant, tech related, and happened in the last seven days, and I’ll most likely post it.
Windows 7
- Microsoft Will Sell You Windows 7 As a Download (But Only For Upgrades) via Gizmodo
- It is sort of annoying that you can only get this for upgrades right now, that should change soon.
- 7 Reasons to Stick with Windows XP via Gizmodo
- I am not sure that I agree with everything on this list, although I do understand and appreciate the premise. If you are in need of a new computer Windows 7 will work great for you.
- Windows 7 More Popular Than Harry Potter via PC World
- With a great push of Marketing speak from Microsoft and help from major media sources, Windows 7 pre-orders in the UK outsold Harry Potter. Note “in the UK”.
- Windows 7 Whopper claims its first victim via Engadget
- We all thought that Japan’s Windows 7 Whopper was ridiculous. Well a small Japanese man eating one may even top that.
Motorola Droid
- Motorola Droid Makes Appearance on Motorola’s site via BGR
- The spec list on the Droid is quite good and almost makes me wish that I stayed with Verizon. Well, no, not really. Sprint is getting up there with their devices too.
- Verizon Droid Is The Real Deal via TechCrunch
- TechCrunch’s comments on this type of thing are always interesting; especially now that Mike Arrington dumped is iPhone.
- Verizon’s anti-iPhone gets its first commercial: ‘Droid Does’ (update) via Engadget
- Engadget’s take w/ the embeded Droid Does Commerical
- The most addicting song ever
- My girlfriend thinks I am totally ridiculous, but this song is too addicting to not listen to.
Miscelaneous
- Psystar releases Mac clone software via CNET News
- This is awesome! The allows anyone with a Core 2 Duo or greater processor (must be Intel) to install OS X on their PC. I am sure Apple will get ahold of this and get rid of it, but for now you can get it for 50 bucks.
- Google strikes a Twitter search deal, too via CNET “the social”
- This could be annoying. I thought that my Twitter page was busy enough, now I have to dig through Twitter search results in my regular searches.
- Barnes & Nobile’s shiny, share-friendly ‘Nook’ via CNN
- This is probably the first eBook reader that can take on the Kindle.
- Exclusive: Google to Crash Android party via TheStree.com
- Please, please, please let this happen. There may finally be an Android phone that uses Android’s full potential.
- Nvidia Targeting real-time cloud rendering via Slashdot
- Talk about not giving a damn what hardware you have. This would be a complete game changer; rendering hopped up PC hardware almost useless. Good luck Nvidia: you have an entire industry to destroy.
Some interesting friend love
- Why use free security software? via HelpMeRick.com
- Always a good topic and question to discuss. I think that Rick hit the nail on the head with this post and like he says can be summed up with one word.
- Defining Wordpress Terms, Part 1 – A Glossary for Beginners via Ericasays.com
- This is a very good start to a series that I will be checking out. I wish I could have found something like this when I started looking into Wordpress!
- How to Do Work on a Computer Without Distractions via LostInTechnology
- A little cross between tech and productivity. I found all of these points to be extremely useful and as a student/worker/blogger I could benefit from them all
And that’s it. Well, it is until you tip me off to anything that I may have missed.

Christopher,
Thanks for the mention!
Looks like I’ve found another CNET fan.
Hey no problem, I thought it was a great article for people just getting into Wordpress. Can’t wait for the rest of them.
I love CNET!
